George Preddy P-51D Decals
Posted by gpal on Thursday, August 7, 2008 7:34 PM

Hello,

I am looking for some 1/48 decals on Major George Preddy's 1944 P-51D. The only ones I have found are in 1/32 or come with a book for $27.00, all I want is the decals.

Thanks, George

Mike Grant Decals offers them, least they did. Also try Golden EagleCals. This one comes w/book but its offered in all scales. The book is almost worth the total price. Lots of info and pics. HTH.

I did find some decals from Eagle strike the "Blue Nose birds of Bodney" from Greatmodels. They say Cripes A Mighty. I do not know which one it is? I hope they will work with the Tamiya P-51D and be accurate.

Thanks, George

George,
You have a few options. Eagle Strike, SuperScale (#48-790), and also Three Guys Replicas "Tarheel Ace Part 2" (#GS48003).

The Three Guys sheet has decals for both "Cripes a' Mighty 3rd", and the last "Cripes a' Mighty"  (the plane that Preddy lost his life in on Christmas Day, 1944). These were both "D" models, however "Cripes a' Mighty 3rd" was an early "D" without the rudder fillet, so if you want this one, a little rudder fillet grinding is in order. Both planes were flown in 1944.

Strangely enough, Three Guys Replicas "Tarheel Ace Part 1" (#GS48002) ALSO contains markings for both versions! I wouldn't have believed it, but I'm holding them both in my hands right now in amazement.
