Damaged Decals????
Posted by wesvin13 on Wednesday, November 12, 2003 6:31 PM
I just bought an open AMT Star Trek USS Excelsior kit. The decal carrier paper seems to have a brownish stain to it, and is wrinkled. It's not the entire sheet, but looks like it is a spill of some type. The decals look tight to the carrier.

My question is, are these decals still usable, or are they trash?

If they are trash, does anyone know where I can get a cheap set of original decals for this old kit? AMT does not carry replacements any longer. Most aftermarket ones cost more than I paid for the kit.

I suppose if you have access to a computer, scanner and a laser printer, you could scan them, clean them up in Photoshop or some other paint program, then print them to new decal sheets...or save the file and take it to a printshop with a color laser printer and have them print them for you.

If you can't save them using the excellent idea Iroc and wesvin13 have mentioned, try contacting AMT for a replacement. Good luck!
