Future and Decals
Posted by lizardqing on Thursday, November 13, 2003 8:46 PM
Ok, when using future with decals, once the future is on the model is it best to put the decal on it while the future is still wet or wait until it dries. I will be trying this the first time with armor but soon on an auto if it makes any difference between gloss and flat. Thanks.

Depends. If you plan on using setting solutions and applying decals in a conventional manner then let the Future dry for 48 hours to reduce risk of reaction with setting solutions. If you are using Future AS a setting solution then brush on Future and apply decal immediately. Most folks do it the conventional way including me, the Future Guru.

Thanks Swanny, since I don't have any setting solution right now, I'll be trying the unconventional method.

I'm new on this Future deal. Do you brush it or airbrush it? If you airbrush, do it pure or dilute it in thinner/water/solvent? Can you use it only on enamels or can be used it in acrylics?
I'm going to use it for the first time on a model, so I want to get it right.
e-mail me at odaniel830@aol.com. Thanks

No need to thin Future. Airbrush it straight. But you can also brush it on as it does not leave brush marks. Can be used over enamels or acrylics... It's a good way to 'seal' enamels if you have to use acrylic paints over at a later stage. Prevents nasty reactions!

Thanks DJ! I am looking forward to use on current project (a F7F) and I wanted to make sure I got it right. I had looked on my magazines, but they did not mention how to do it.

Doritz,
there are a couple of Future sticky topics you should read before begining.
i think they are the top threads in the techniques forum.
