Decal Disaster -Need Advice Please
Posted by stevedb227 on Sunday, September 7, 2008 11:28 PM

Just finished a 1/48 Tamiya Gloster Meteor.   Was almost ready to display and I had forgotten to paint the sky type S band around the fuselage rear.   I carefully masked the band off using Tamiya Tape and then secured the forward fuselage and the tail area with tissure and more tape to prevent overspray.

In my rush to finish this I inadvertently stuck tape across the upper wind roundel and the lettering on one fuselage side.   I am guessing that you all know what happened next.   The paint job went perfectly and when I removed the tissue and tape it tore a chunk out of both decalled areas.

Now comes the part that I need all the advice you can offer.   The aircraft was finished in Modelmaster enamels followed by a nice coat of future, the decals and then more future.   This was followed by several coats of Testors Matte to finish it off.   How do I approach the re-decalling.   Do I just replace the parts that ripped off?   If not how do I remove the remainder of the decals without ruining the finish??

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I promise never to do this again!Black Eye [B)]

Thanks, Steve

Only thing i can think  of is use some more tape and pull the rest of the decal off and get another set of decals if you dont already have them. good luck.

I'd concur, but be careful you don't take any paint with the tape when you use it to remove the decals.
