Replacements for Stock Decals
Posted by billiken07 on Sunday, April 19, 2009 12:14 AM
Hi everyone! I'm new to this whole thing, but think I'll post because I can't really seem to find an answer.

I've been working on the Academy 1/32 F/A-18 plastic model, and finally finished the model only to totally mess up the decals. Some have ripped, others are bubbling, etc. I've been looking around the net and have seen that there are plenty of aftermarket decals for the F-18 out there, but with so many of the details of the plane being small decals, I don't think I'll be able to replace everything. So I was looking to see if I can purchase a replacement set of decals from this kit. I've tried e-mailing Academy, but have gotten no response. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

If you are in the United States, you may wish to try contacting Academy's US distributor MRC. The contact details may be found here: http://www.modelrec.com/contactus/index.asp Explain your problem and they may be able to supply the decals if they have them available.

MRC is absolutely horrible for replacements of any kind. I cannot even begin to tell you the trouble I went through to get a replacement for the warped wing of my 32nd scale Hornet.

You are much better off just using one of the aftermarket brands

Mike,

You just put crappy decals on your model, why would you want more of the same?  Depending on the manufacturer, most aftermarket decals come with the various airframe stencils or at least the important ones.  I agree with btp, go with some aftermarket markings in this case.
