YEOOW!!!!! I should have believed my P40 DVD on doing the sludge wash to dark...as the dullcote makes it even darker. OPPPPSSS!!!  And be sure that the sludge wash is off surfaces you dont want to see it...even a tiny film screams through the dullcote. Well its my first plane...learning alot....the hard way....LOL.

For sure....it was a perfect kit for right now as I was also working on a Revell car kit for this weekends show. While the P40 wasnt loaded with alot of detailed parts it was exactly what I needed...something easy....esp learning how to airbrush at the same time. And I got mine for $8 so how could I go wrong? :)

I'll get a pic up on it as soon as I'm done...which I hope is before the show this weekend!

It's a good kit to hone your aircraft building skills on Jim. Looking forward to some pics. I love the P-40, got two more on the way from China!

Edit: Trumpeter kits, NOT Revell!

Hi Keith,

You probably are right about the decals as these are the first I've used from a plane kit. But vs my ProStock car decals...oh man...them babies had to be ripped off the backing with vice grips...then you could slather them with racing fuel....light them on fire...and they still wouldnt settle in!!!

But I'll have to take a closer look at the P40's....old age has my eye site missing stuff these days.

I hope to do the flat coat tonight.....keeping my fingers crossed. I'm also new to using an airbrush so I shot some practice panels over the weekend. The dreaded canopy...man...thank god I used Future over it first...as twice I had to redunk it in Future to strip off the horrible paint job. I used BMFoil to mask it....but I didnt get it painted all that well.

Hi Sean,

I haven't planned one for this build. but I do have a grass base to take some pics of it on. I'm also building a 1/32 Ju-87 Trop at the moment, so I'm building a desert base for that when I'm finished rescribing the thing.

Hi Jim,

I thought they were a bit thick and mightn't conform to the rivet lines, I slathered them in Mr.Setter and left them overnight. Was in work this morning at 7am, so I haven't seen how they are yet.

Needs a bit more weathering and a flat coat, plus my achilles heel, the canopy!

Rgds,

Keith

Love the avatar Keith! We quote that movie weekly...LOL!

I will say the decals with my kit were excellent...way better than most of my car model decals I've used!

Just about done with mine....did the detail wash and shoot the dullcote tomorrow night.

I'm building the same kit right now and had the same problem! The kit instructions are no help. Thanks! Thumbs Up [tup]

Hi Sean,

Thanks very much!!!! I should have posted I was doing the Flying Tiger decal set...my bad though I'd imagine they all use these same decals. I was taking a close look at the decal set and there are other ones that I can hardly read with my bad eyes. When I get back home tonight maybe I'll post them or skip them for this plane. I think one set goes under the "kill" symbols but from the pics of the real plane I have I cant make out what they say.

Thanks again!

P40 decal placement
Posted by cirrus90 on Sunday, October 18, 2009 1:41 PM

Hi,

First time poster...nice forum and love the mag!!

I'm a new modeler and just tackled my first plane kit. A Revell P40B Tigershark kit. Came out pretty nice even though I was abit lost when to do some things. Swanny's dvd helped alot. Anyway I have a few decals left to do...but for the life of me I cant find where they go on the plane.

-Fuel drain

-No step (I imagine this goes on the wing trailing edge somewhere)

-First aid inside door

I searched all over the net for pics and such but no luck. Can anyone offer an help?

TIA!
