Ive used some like that - they can be dicey.

First overspray with some sort of clear, gloss coating. I use regular acrylic enamel (Im oldschool; we didn't have a dedicated product for everything back in the day Smile ) You will have to cut them individually from the sheet as already mentioned, but the coating holds them together.

Then dont soak the decals - never soak decals. Dip them, place them on a wet sponge or paper towel and let them absorb. Then place them using either Future/Pledge or the white glue trick mentioned by 511inf.... well that guy up there. These two compunds, PA glue and acrylic finishes are your friends when dealing with old decals.

In the end, its probably going to be simpler to get some AM decals. But what model builder is about simple?

Testors Decal Bonder. Comes in a spray can. Spray the whole sheet and let dry. The whole sheet of decals will now have a continuous film overlaying it, so you will have to closely cut out each individual decal from the sheet.

It's an old Monogram 1/72 Crusader. I will look to see if there are any aftermarket decals.

Thanks for the info, though..

If they've been wet (with water), there is a chance they won't release from the backing paper. If they do release, there is a chance that the glue has been affected and they may not stick. I believe Gunze's "Mr Mark Setter" has a mild adhesive which can help stubborn decals stick better (but don't quote me on that, as I haven't used it yet).

If they are at risk of cracking during application, a product such as MicroScale's Liquid Decal Film may be painted onto the decal to help hold it together.

If something has spilled on the decals and bleached or otherwise discoloured them, you're out of luck.

There may be an aftermarket set for that particular model. What's the subject/scale?

I have an old model that has old decals. They have dried out or somthing was spilled on them. Is there a way to restore them. Can I put Future on them on the decal sheet or are they just useless?
