The Damn Cat
Posted by Arespontus on Sunday, December 6, 2009 6:00 AM
Hi Everyone

First of all I just want to say thanks to those of you who have replied to my posts. I have learned a great deal about modelling because of this.

Anyway while I was sleeping last night my tabby cat just up on my modelling workbench and knocked over a jar of water i use to soak my brushes in. The water fell over onto the decal sheet for my FA-18E Super Hornet.

My Question is: If I let the decal sheet dry, will I be able to apply them (the decals) at a later date. Or are they ruined.

I have placed the decals up on a dry shelf where the cat can't get them lol.

Thanks
Scott

The answer is maybe!

If the glue has been soaked off, then you might be able to salvage the decals by using Future as the adhesive.

So long folks!

Chances are they are toast, but give it a try.  Nothing to lose at this point.

I tried a couple of decals in luke warm water and was able to apply them to left over plastic parts from a model I never completed.

Good News it worked. So I will use the future floor polish and apply the decals and then finish it off with a Matte spray.

thanks

I've offered the following at least once before here in the Forum, but this seems like an appropriate place to repeat it.

HOW TO WASH A CAT

1.  Pour approximately 8 ounces of pet shampoo into toilet.

2.  Insert Cat.  Sit on lid.

3.  Flush 10-12 times, allowing 30-60 seconds between flushes.

4.  RUN.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

If you find that the decals don't slide off the paper without difficulty because of the previous exposure to water, you can respray the whole sheet with Testors Decal Bonder. You'll have to cut close to each individual decal as you remove it from the sheet, as the dried bonder forms a continuous film over the entire sheet.
