Need some advise on wrinkled decals. Building a Tamiya Spitfire, using MicroSet/Sol on the decals. The small decals are going on just fine but the British "roundels" are not. They wrinkle severely when I apply the MicroSol, which is expected, but the wrinkles have not settled down. In the three days since they were put on, I've continually reapplied the Sol hoping to settle them down. No luck so far.
Any ideas or thoughts??

You might try using a damp tissue to roll out the wrinkles by starting in the center and work outwards. Get as much of them out an let it sit for a while. Sometimes I find applying water over the decal helps them settle once the decal softener softens them up. Sometimes it also takes poking lots of holes in the decal to get it to lay down as well. The holes disappear.

Finally gave up, bought AM decals and will try again. Never could get the roundels to lay down. I'm starting to think the problem is with the decals. All the "stencil" decals, with the clear carrier film, laid down just fine. Even the squadron letter markings worked just fine. Just the solid colored roundels gave me trouble.
Are you applying the decals to a gloss surface or a flat surface? It is essential that the surface is glossy, otherwise the decals may not settle down when using a decla solvent.
Phil,
Yes, lots of Future. In fact, I put the Future on thicker where ever the decals go to minimize silvering.

Who are you who art so wise in the ways of science?
And to think we owe it all to Manny !
But he'd probably rather kiss a Wookiee than accept our thanks..............Manny simply prefers to remain one of those anonymous minions working tirelessly in forum backgrounds trying to derail as many threads as possible and, therefore, delay the Bolshevik hordes until the Fuhrer can unleash his 1/6th scale super detailed special edition V-2s ( with a scale pewter Von Braun figure ) on London's hobby shops.
Manny. you're the funniest one here and need the fewest lines for the effect. I always enjoy your posts!
Same thing happened to me with the wing crosses for a Dragon Me163. I spent several hours doing a beautiful paint job on the little guy. Several coats of Future went on but the darn crosses wrinkeled very bad after using Sovaset. I have NEVER had this happen. I had to soak the crosses with the Solvaset and wet sand them off because they would not come off any other way. Now I have to do some repainting. I tried Microset on the fuselage crosses without any problems. Maybe the Solvaset was too strong for the Dragon Decals?
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
Luckily with many coats of Future, I was able to get the bad decals off without getting down into the paint. All I had to do was sand the Future smooth and recoat with another layer. By the way, the AeroMaster decals went on just fine. I still can't figure out why the kit decals didn't.
