Military Aircraft Fonts
Posted by Experimental Modeler on Friday, February 26, 2010 7:15 PM

FSM November 2006 listed Tlai Enterprises Media Design as a source of military aircraft fonts. The web site is on line, but hasn't been updated since 2001 and trying to communicate with the site doesn't work. Do they exist now under another name or is there another source for this type of product. I'd like to print a few markings that aren't commercially available.

Thanks.

What fonts are you looking for?  Most of the fonts on the Tlai web page can be downloaded for free.  I purchased the Amarillo, Longbeach and Stencil fonts years ago.

Tried again and realized I was trying to download via FTP and not HTTP. The latter works fine. I will have to talk with a computer friend to determine which version of the LongBeach is most compatable with my equipment. Will try it and if it works well, will go for the AmarilloPro. This should help releve the problem of searching for decals that don't exsist.

Sounds like they can be scaled down for use on 1/96, 1/200 etc. Please confirm that this assumption.

Thanks.

If you are using a version of Windows you need to get the .ttf files, you can also get the Adobe fonts.

I  downloaded all the fonts they gave me access to on the download page.   Remember to save your passwords to unlock the fonts.  If you loose the passwords and try to install the fonts on a new computer you may be out of luck.

The fonts can be scaled down to 1/144 scale or smaller using the right graphics program.

What graphics programs are needed. I have Windows XP, Adobe 9, Photoshop 2, and Microsoft PhotoDraw 2000 (Version 2). Not familiar at all with anything other than Word and Photoshop and am not an expert in the later.

Not wanting to spend a lot, but want to be able to print anything from 1/48 down to 1/100. Want to be able to match some of the special military colors like USAF ADC Insignia Blue letters/numbers, Blue Angels Yellow lettering as well as black and low visibilty aircraft lettering. Not planning on getting into it big time, just occasional work. Also recognize that I will have to be able to accurately provide the correct background color when making decals that include white lettering etc. Any short answers?

Probably Linux for the graphics. Fonts I have really easy download  here. It's pretty much every font al but the US Navy 60 degree letters. After downloading the its just a matter of installing them. Good luck and don't forget to virus check 'em.
