Advice for Tamiya decals
Posted by redraider56 on Thursday, September 2, 2010 4:44 PM

Well I recently bought my first Tamiya kit, a 1/48 P-47 Razorback  for the 8th AF GB and was just wondering something.   All the reviews I've read on the kit say the decals are thick and have trouble settling down.  My question is this:  is micro sol and micro set adequate enough for thick Tamiya decals or do I need something stronger?

I have always had good luck with those products on Tamiya kit decals.

My P-51B took multiple applications of Micro-Sol and I still wasn't happy with how the decals settled down (or didn't).

I do believe that they do run a little thick.  I've seen some of their colors be a little suspect also.  I had some British roundels where the reds were leaning towards browns.  With all the sales that Squadron has on decals and some good buys on ebay, I've accumulated a pretty good stash of decals.  For what it's worth I think that the Super Scale line of decals provide the the best lay down application, but I've also had good luck with Aeromaster and Eagle Strike.  I tend to use the aftermarket decals for my national markings, but we all can find success on different paths.  Rick.

I've found solvaset works better on tamiya decals lay them in a puddel of decal set then put a coat on top.      ACESES5                                 in process Tamyia 1/35 Bren Gun Carrier                     Smile BurgerBalloons
