IP gauge decals, punch sets and bears, oh my!
Posted by DoogsATX on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 5:56 PM

Okay. I'm gearing up to try this whole individual-gauge-decal thing for the first time. Got my MicroMark punch set. Got my Mike Grant IP decals (and a few kit IP decals I'm planning to punch up).

So...what now? What do I need to put under the decal sheets when I punch them out? I don't have any sheet styrene on hand...would card stock or index cards or similar work?

Next. Getting decals wet and applying decals to the instrument panel. Any suggestions? Tips and tricks that work well?

Figure I'll figure most of this out by experiment, but I'd like to try to avoid any stupid mistakes if I can...

Hey doogs

1st thing to do is get some Testors decal Bonder.  The Mike Grant instrument decals are incredibly delicate and do not have individual carry film over them.  So your plan to use a punch is a good one.  =But coat them first.  They will be really small so what I do is put a bead of water on a piece of glass and put the decal into the bead.  When loose apply like any other decal.  Instead of using a setting solution, use a drop of Future to set the decal.  This will serves 2 purposes.  The decal will be stuck really good and the shiny face will look like the glass face.
