Thanks for all the input. Will try it. Was concerned about possibly marring the silver paint. Some of the decal glue tends to do that, but sounds like I just need to wash off the the glue with a cotton swab.

Thanks again.

Decal adhesive was mostly made up of egg whites or a by product there of...so with time, the compound breaks down and looses its bond. It dries up and flakes away.

You might also try applying a little highly diluted white gule with a small paint brush.  Then clean up any residue with a moistened q-tip.

The problem lies in that they are drying out and the adhesive holding them in place has failed. You might try the setting solutions or just water and once in place again clear coat the model. Otherwise you might want to remove them all and reapply new ones, this time sealing them down.

If the decal is over paint, I would think micro-sol or even maybe setting solution would be fine. I'd try the setting solution first- if that doesn't hold, then go to micro-sol or equivalent.  It may hold okay with micro-sol, but if you get it in place with setting solution I'd clear coat the model to prevent it pulling up again after awhile.

I finished a 1/96 Lightning, Squadron 56 about 40 years ago. Made all my decals including the wing walk decals that were cut from a large black decal. The stripes are about 1/32 inch wide and are now curling up. The airplane was spray-painted aluminum with Testors or one of the other paints available then. Any recommendations on getting them reattached without breaking them or marring the aluminum paint finish?
