Decals not adhering
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, January 16, 2004 7:24 AM
I have had a problem recently with decals not adhering to my planes. The planes are glossed varnished ,and after drying the plane is decaled.Decals are cut out dipped in hot water for a few secs and removed.I then wait for the decal to loosen from its backing and then slides into postion. After drying I find that the decals have not adhered, and fall off easily. The decals are mostly tamiya kit decals, but sometimes occur to other brand. Please help.Harry

You decal adhesive is defective. I have sucess using water with some white glue in the solution. I've also been known to put a little Future Floor Wax in the solution to help the decal stick. And a drop of soap to help the decal snuggle down it known to be in my solution. Sometimes a little alcohol in that bowl is put in to help the decal dry.

I hope you found an answer in all that. :)

COLT45

Years ago, before aftermarket decals, we used to use a 50/50 mixture of white glue and water to soak our decals in. Would still loosen the decal from the backing sheet but added glue to the decal. You might try that.
