2 coats of future should help, & leave pinned flat for as long as possible.

If they have yellowed, then pin up in a sunny window away from the glass surface to bleach back to clear.

You will have to cut the decal from the sheet as close to the decal as possible, as the future will bond to the un-decalled part of the sheet.

Consider that, if the decals are 16 years old the adhesive may also degrade, so make sure the surface to be decaled is clean, & glossy, & don't over soak the decal to get it off the sheet., Otherwise it's aftermarket decals.

Decals breaking apart- which is best fix?
Posted by maxfax on Sunday, January 2, 2011 9:47 PM

I am building a ProModeller 1/ 48  He-111H. According to the date printed on the decals, they are 16 years old. Of course I try to put one on tonight- and it doesn't come easily and it shatters. I searched the forum and several options have come up, such as using Microscale product and Testors Decal product or Future or any clear coat. My hobby shop doesn't have either of the first products, and I don't want to order a $3 bottle and pay $20 for "international shipping", unless I really have to. If I brushed on straight Future onto the decal sheet, let it dry, would that reliably solve my problem, or should I get one of the first two products? Or are there any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Rob
