But...I just tried the "local gloss" thing for the first time on my Achilles...and after the flat coat, you can still tell where the gloss was applied. I figure the washes, streaking and pigments to come will obscure it well enough, but still, annoying. Next time I will be glossing the entire thing.

It is hard to tell from the photo whether you got silvering, or just a different gloss/flat ratio.  One thing you can do at this point, if you have an airbrush, is to overspray the decals with a very light mist of the color under the decals- assuming it is a flat paint.  Not only will this dull down the decals, it will give them a weathered appearance.

Don - no silvering, but the area where I applied the gloss (Future) seems to have darkened the paint a touch. And it's still visible after a flat coat has been applied.

I'm not too worried, since the Achilles should be sufficiently weathered to obscure any such nonsense, but I won't be using the spot gloss method for any aircraft any time soon.

Doogs- Another negative of using future, it darkens the paint and changes the hue. Other gloss coats won't do that. I'll be trying lifecolor gloss for my next build, we'll see how that goes.

Yep. I'm very curious about the new Alclad clear coats. Planning to pick them up and see how they go...

I have never had any luck doing the local thing. It always seems a little raised compared to the surrounding areas. I guess that it does have an extra layer of something so that might explain it. Maybe I just did it wrong.
