I would not use the rule.  It might end up fighting the direction the gap is trying to get it to take.   Light steady pressure should allow you to follow the gap- the rule would be unnecessary.   Did you use any decal solvent?  Sometimes that gets the decal to nestle into gaps well enough that it is then easier to cut.

I need to cut the decals where they meet the flaps of an aircraft.  (They don't flow down into it).

I let it dry, and was going to use a new blade with a metal ruler, then slowly draw it down the gap on both sides.

Is there some trick to this procedure?  I figure the ruler will help it from tearing.
