Need help find what better way to make a bricks for on the model builts?

Hello,

I was done with some of models for years and last thing I was finished with model of HMHS Britannic wreck... that was Titanic's sister Britannic as hospital ship and sank back in 1916.If you remember that I post on here at SHIPS

My old school Kansas School for the Deaf  just turned 150th years old.... and I went there and have a good times to see my old friends and teachers.  Then I was met my old teacher, who retired and now he working for the Kansas School for the Deaf museum. He asked ...me want to build an oldest school and he showed me the old photos of this KSD school built in late 1880's and was no long be there. they was torn down in late 1930's. But, I am get very interested to build this and show how beautiful with lot of great detail and weathering and more. They and I yet decide how big model will be and I told him that I wanted to build  bigger as 6 ft long wide and high as 3ft to 4ft.

As you noticed there a lot and lots of bricks and I am not sure what best way for me to do made a prefect bricks to laying on around the model and do easy way to? Unless there have a kits with different sizes of bricks for model?? I will glad anyone will tell me what a better way or give me a other idea. :)

Plastruct makes styrene sheets in brick patterns in various scales.

you can also get sheets to glue over flat styrene I think micro mark makes one.

I have seen somebody build a diorama house with sheet cork as bricks. Absolutely amazing and very lifelike.

Model railroaders do a lot of scratch buildings, and various brick sheets are available.  There is even a company that sells software to print brick and other building material look onto card stock with your computer.

If you choose a scale close to one of the model railroad scales, go to the model railroad section of your local hobby shop, buy a model railroad magazine and look at the ads, or go to Walthers.com and look at what they have.

Many and Many THANKS!!  :)

I never thought of do with the paper and more cheaper, but I don't think it good idea?   What if the color of paper will fading away by many years later or something accident with water on the paper where bricks are... will lose a colors or spots?? I want my model will be still there in museum for long and longer after I was already dead! ha ha just kidding!

I  already looking over some on the website that have kits for bricks..Much good idea and easy for me to but... I don't want to spending lot of money.  :(

I always want to do make more real and more details. I was found in the store that have a long, thin and small wood stick to cuts to made shape as the brick. I know it sound crazy to take millions to laying over the built and then painting it!! I hope it worth try and finish it and display for Museum!  :)

But I still interested to know more about the printing a paper with the bricks decals.

   THANKS  William :)

William:  I think the method you settle on will depend on the final scale you select for the model.  Model railroading sources are indeed probably your best bet.

But there are maybe cheaper alternatives.  Posted below are some houses I built in 1:6 scale, for my little soldiers.  The examples are stone, not brick, but the principle would be the same.  I used styrofoam insulation board, and engraved the stonework with a pencil, then painted.

It was tedious and boring, and would probably be even more so in a scale smaller than 1:6 (GI Joe-size), and insulation board would be too large.  Maybe foam-core board would work.

Finally, a shot of a brick wall built using the same method.

On the web, there is this source for printable bricks:

You could resize them to whatever you need.

Whatever you choose to do, good luck with your project.
