Hey guys just wondering what the different uses for Micro-Sol and Micro-Set are?  How are they different?

From what I can gaterh...Microset is a wetting agent that alows you to position the decal on the kit. The DecalSol is a softener that will snuggle your decal down into recesses.

MicroSet is diluted acetic acid (vinegar).  It has a softening affect on some decals.  I've used it to lay down decals on, but if I'm not precise or quick, the decal can set too soon and be damaged when I try to re-position it.

I have gone back to using water for position, then wick it away and use Set to snug the decal down.

MicroSol is isopropyl alcohol i believe (not sure of the diluted strength) and has more of a softening/dissolving affect on decals.  If Set isn't getting the job done, try Sol.

Micro-set is a wetting agent that helps you position a decal.

Micro-sol is a decal solvent that slightly "melts" the decal so it will suck down onto the surface detail.

Set, under the decal

Sol, on top. Some decals are thicker and will require numerous applications of sol before they'll finally snuggle down into/over details.

Japanese decals are known to be thick. Tamiya and Hasegawa decals will need a couple passes with microsol to get them to form nicely. apply microsol and leave it. don't touch it. apply again once dry.

Can anyone share experience using alcohol has a setting solution?  I just tried, diluted at about 50/50 with water, and rivets popped holes right through the decal.

Am about ready to order some Micro-Sol, but since it is not available locally, it means adding shipping onto the total cost, so begins to get expensive.

Thanks!

Never tried Alcohol as a decal setter but I think that Valejo uses it in their formula.
