Setting decals

What you use to set decals should depend in large part on the decal. Most after market decals will set just fine on a flat, gloss coated surface with Micro Set. Surfaces that have compound curves or irregular surfaces might take a shot of Micro Sol. I find that kit decals are, for the most part, much tougher to get to settle into the surface and can take a shot of Micro Sol just to settle on a smooth regular surface. Some decals just won't settle under ether Sol or Set, in that case you can try something like Solvaset or what I use distilled vinegar. All are good additions to the toolbox.

You may already know this, but make sure you have a gloss surface for the decals.  If the paint is flat, use a clear gloss.  That will help reduce/eliminate the silvering.

I only use the Sol (red bottle) for decals of really difficult surface. The skin of a Ju 52 is a good example. 90% of the time i only the set. It does say on the instructions to put the solution on and just leave it. But i find it useful to dap the decal with a bit of foam to help push it down. Just be carfeul if moving the dacle after you have applied the solution as it can make the decal very soft and easy to damage.

Thanks for the advice! I have just bought the Micro-Set(blue) off the internet. It hasn't come yet but I am looking forward to having a shot with it!

Both,the blue bottle goes on 1st and helps the decal to set,which in most cases is enough.if it is a difficult surface like zimmerit,then the red bottle softens it further to really get down snug.the bottles go a long way.
