Decal water temp

I don't know if this has been covered in here already, but I've got a tip that may be helpful.

When applying decals, I have one of those mini electric hotplates that are for keeping your coffee warm.

I fill a cup with  warm water, and by putting the cup on that hotplate, the water never gets cold.

I know warm water makes it lift quicker. But is it really better? Doesnt cold water work just as well? Just a bit slower.

Some of the old thick Monogram decals definitely worked better with warm water.  They actually had a pressure-sensitive adhesive and had to be blotted down since they didn't repsond to setting solutions.  Using warm water softened them and helped them conform to the surface contours.

I don't don't use warm water for most decals, but I do use distilled water to avoid the mineral stains that you can get from tap water.

Another good use for distilled water- use it as a final rinse after washing your parts in soapy water, then let it air-dry.  No spotty mineral residue!

Been using just regular cold tap water since the late 60's - early 1970's on my decals and it works just fine. I dip them in for a few seconds, pick them out with teweezers and set them dowm for the water to work. A couple of munutes later its ready to slide off the backing paper.
