The current issue of FSM has a nice detailed article written by Don Stauffer on this subject that should answer all your questions.  (Good work, Don!)

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

Would be white over grey paint for numerals.

Depends on the color of the number.  It is easy to create dark color decals for use over light colors.  Printing white or light colored decals for application over dark surfaces takes real skill, however.

No decals in my U-Boat!?

Building Modelcraft U581 and the kit is missing decals. I'm a noob modeler but I think I read some where about being able to make decals on a PC/Printer set up.

So I need to create the actual U581 numbers as well as a small "bug" decal. I have a .jpg of the bug I got of a U-Bboat website.

Thx for any/all help.
