testers decal paper

hi .don its pete --5-high ,,,yea i did a test today it looks like i can spray ts-13 clear on the decals...no damage ,,one light mist waited till dry to the touch then a wetter one ,,it seems good ..decals way too thick ..i just order,d micro marks sheets today ..so i,ll see how that one go,s ..im almost thinking of frisken the markings and painting them on by airbrush ...man i hate the hobby stores here in prince george b.c , canada ..for the size of my city thay should have everything a modeler would want !!!!!!!!! . there,s only one and there not friendly ...more r.c than plastic kits ...sad to say but on line odering will have to do i guess ..thay lost a major buyer..ever see a dear stear at headlights ......thats what i get when i ask of any new kits have come in . well thanks for u r help don,, pete

Depends on the ink.  It is hard to determine without a test, since even the same printer mfg may use different inks in different model printers. I have found some printer inks dissolve in virtually ANY clear coat. I resorted to buying a cheap HP printer that I use only for decals. It was on sale for forty bucks, so I figured I could afford that much for a dedicated decal printer.

I have run tests, and a good ink can withstand clear acrylic (I think Tamiya is that), urethane varnish, and Testors gloss and dullcoats.  I havent tried future yet on the HP ink, but I think it is basically an acrylic coating.  BTW, the HP model I bought that seems to work so well is their 2510.

5-high here don , thanks for the info ,,just order,d Micro Marks decal sheets today . also some baremetal sheets ,,,,i have a nother question ,,is it safe to use tamiya clear as a fixer ie,(ts-13) or is that going damage my decals ???   i used the clear for the spit i built. or should i stick with testers fixer .   thanks

Since you slide the paper off (or the decal off the paper) when you apply the decal, the thickness of the paper should not be an issue.  I do find the carrier film a bit thick on inkjet decal sheets, compared to some of the better ultra thin modern decals, but I still find I get good results- they look fine when I get them clearcoated.  Personally I use the stuff that Micro Mark sells.
