Matting down after adding decals
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, March 18, 2003 12:26 PM
I have a question desperately needing an answer. I use Future floor polish to 'gloss' a model prior to adding decals and markings. I am however, having a real problem matting down afterwards. I used to live in the UK and this was no problem. You could buy decent matt varnishes in Aerosol cans. Here, the Testors aerosol matt varnish does not cover at all well and requires 4 or 5 coats to fully cover the Future polish 'gloss'.

Can anyone suggest a better remedy?

Testor's Acryl line includes flat, satin, and gloss acrylic varnishes. I have had good luck brushing it on, though airbrushing is safer. Future is notoriously slow curing, requiring 48 hrs or more in warm, dry climates, and more in cold or damp ones, especially if not airbrushed. Tamiya makes an acrylic flat base which might be added to Future to create a flat version of Future for topcoats.
