Proper base gloss coat for decals?????
Posted by F-100 John on Friday, October 3, 2014 1:31 PM

After applying Testor's acrylics, is Future better than Micro Scale Micro Gloss? Do the 2 clash??

Is there a shelf life for Micro Gloss??  I noticed Future actually dulled after I accidentally put Micdro Gloss over it.

Can Future actually be over applied?

Hi F-100 John,

Just saw your post. I've never used Micro Scale Micro Gloss but use Future frequently as a base for decals. I usually airbrush a single wet coat then apply decals. If you use MicroSet or MicroSol to help settle the decals you can get a little discoloration where the setting solution gets on the Future BUT a reapplication of Future cures that easily. As far as over application, I've applied as many as three thin coats with no problems. However, when experimenting with food coloring dyed Future  I once sprayed about 5 coats to  get the depth I wanted (not enough food coloring) and the Future film (?) was thicker than I would want on my models - a lot more food coloring in the Future cured that problem though. So, yeah, I guess Future could be over applied.
