It is amazing how far a small piece of PE will fly when you launch it from tweezer jiggle!

Losing small parts and PE can be stressful. I usually grab one of those LED flashlights and often times, I am on the floor with flashlight laid out on floor and start scanning the area hoping to find the shadow or glint of a PE part. Insofar I have yet lost any small part.PE pieces forever.

Silver,

Thanks for your note. I have bought aftermarket decals when available (I think the last set was for the P-400 Airacobra). It's probably the best way to go to finish a more realistic model. I also like the idea to order a second set of decals from the kit manufacturer; however, I'm not sure they will send them for free (Tamiya doesn't). They charge about $3.50 plus P&H so it costs about $6-$8. It's not even so much the money just the inconvenience and frustration. I also like the idea of printing a duplicate set of decals but I'm not sure how to do it.

As for the carpet monster, my wife seems better at finding "microscopic" PE parts--basically by rubbing her open hand around on the rug (this probably can't be done with shag rugs--if they're still around!).

Regards,

Bob

Both would drive the prices of the kit higher. Will the manufacturers take it into consideration? No.

I would like to see extra PE pieces also- in fact even more than decals.  Some kit makers or accessory vendors do supply extra for the small pieces.  They can sure go flying across the room easily.

At a last resort just write the model company and tell them to send you another set.?90% of the time they do.

Model manufactures will not add a second set .I agree w/ you on having an extra set. Some manufactures even add an extra canopy which is great.Canopy replacement can kill a kit.As far for decals just stay away from Tamiya and Revell decals..

Go aftermarket decals .You will be better off.Plan ahead then select which version then order through EBay.99% of kit decals will not match aftermarket ones.

Duplicate decals from kit manufacturers

Why can't kit manufacturers include a second set of decals in their kits? I would be willing to pay an extra dollar or two for this. As it is, a replacement set (from Tamiya, for example), costs about $6-$8 including shipping and handling. Then there's the wait time involved as well. I posted this note on the aircraft forum before I learned about this forum. I am suggesting that you write a letter to the editor at FINE SCALE MODELING Magazine; maybe some manufacturers will do something about it. I will write my own letter to them.
