Removing and re-applying decals?
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, March 15, 2004 12:06 PM
I have finally started addingsome of the decals to my 1-24 F-15, and realised shortly into the process that I forgot to prep the surface with future first. Now I have silvering under the dcals, and I am wondering if there is a way to remove them, add the future, givie that time to dry, and then re-apply the decals?

I have not put anything on over the decals yet, as I caught myself before it was (hopefully) too late.

If I can remove them, how can I store the decals while the future dries?

Ugh, so many problems...

If the decals have been applied and allowed to dry, there is no way I know of to remove them without destroying them. You may be able to remove them without damaging the paintwork, but I think the decals are toast.

I was afraid of that.

Actually, last night I (very lightly) cut the surface of the decal with a new x-acto blade, and then applied some testors setting solution. It wicked inder the surface of the decal, and from what I saw this morning was able to remove most of the silvering.

Thought about trying that technique with future, but I am not sure if it is too thick to really wick under an already set decal.
