Decals needed for old Tamiya Walker Bulldog - where to buy
Posted by gio on Thursday, April 28, 2016 2:27 AM

Hi guys,

I got this kit from an IPMS show. I was just so excited to see it that I didn't notice the decals are really no good. The kit is very old and of course cheap. Is there a online store specializing in decals? Pardon my ignorance; I just came back to scale modeling again after 15 years hence the old kits first :)

I appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Gio

Gio,

Welcome back to the hobby, and glad to have you here. All you need to do is call the Tamiya office in California and ask them for a decal set. If you tell them it's for a really old kit, they may even send it to you for free. It's worth a try. They have sent me free parts and decals in the past. Try this number: 800-826-4922. Best wishes and happy modeling.

Thanks so much Barrett! I didn't expect that's actually possible. I'm working on some old cheap Tamiya kits which btw are still great given their age with the culmination of King Tiger 1/16 my wife gave me during my birthday. :)

Cheers!

Almost all decal sheets have extraneous areas with things like trademarks and such, that are actual decals in spite of not being needed.  Try applying one of these non-essential decals to see if the decals are okay.

If the decals are yellow, they can be bleached in direct sunlight.

If the decals shatter, they can be rescued by painting the sheet with decal varnish or decal coatings, available at hobby shops.  The only downside is that you must then trim each decal very closely, since the whole sheet becomes on decal.
