Chris JT
It's the lacquer based gloss. Alclad II Gloss Klear Kote. ALC-310. Is there another gloss anyone can recommend for decaling prep and sealing? I am in Australia so pledge/future is not an option.

I've used that many times as a sealer before Flory without trouble you are having.

Can't imagine what went wrong, and I'm sorry again for misreading your original post.

Alclad also does an Aqua gloss which a lot of people are now useing as a replacment for future, you could try that.

Got ur. I have never had any issues, and thats one reason why i use the gloss paint and the flory, to avoid that extra step.

I would be interested to know if it is the Aqua gloss or not. I use that on armour before weathering and am having issues with the oil wash attacking the paint. Ifit happens on my next build, i think i'll take the advice here and contact Alclad.

Geez. I'd a sworn up and down he mentioned "Aqua". I stand corrected, but I still think you should confirm it's not the Aqua product, Chris.

I think I'll blame it on the jetlag.

I also see you mentioned 24 hrs dry time. Sorry about that too. For 4 coats, that might be a little short. Maybe.

Never said I thought it was a bad idea, Bish. I said I'm surprised it works. Flory, with it's clay base, hits me as feeling almost slightly abrasive. I guess I'd have thunk it'd attack the decals, not so much the paint. But apparently not and that's just fine.

I'm all about saving steps lately. I'll give it a go.

Greg, the Alclad Klear is lacquer, its the Aqua Gloss thats water based.

Why do you think it might be wrong to put the Flory straight onto the paint.?

Your problem, I presume, is that Aqua Klear cote is water based and so is Flory wash.

So the Flory is dissolving the water-based acrylic you sealed with.

Solution would be to clear coat with one of the Alclad clear coats that are not water based. Or some other solvent-based clear coat of your choice.

Confusing the Alclad Clear coat products is so easy to do because the product naming counter-intuitive. After all these years I still have to do a sniff to see if I guessed right.

I'd guess you could make your existing products work if you let the Aqua Klear dry for several, and I do mean several days. How long did you let it dry (before the Flory), by the way?

Bish, I'm sort of surprised you get away with Flory straight over the top too. Don't get me wrong, certainly not saying you are wrong, you've been doing this lots longer than I.

Ye, good point. I use gloss paint so didn't think of that.

But then i still don't get how the paint is getting under the decals. Either the decals are not down properly or some how theAlclad is lifting them.

Bish

I have never applied Alclad klear gloss before adding Flory wash, i just add it straight on to the paint and decals. Is there a reason your applying the Alclad.

Bish,no Future with Flory ?? I assume he was just using a gloss as per Flory instructions,I know I do.Unless your paint is gloss.

Weather wash staining paint and getting below decals.

I need some newbie advise regarding the flory weathering wash.

I have built 2 models now where I have sealed the decals with Alclad klear gloss and then used the Flory weathering wash to weather the planes and fill in the panel lines. My issue is on both the weathering wash has gotten under the decals and essentially ruined the model. It has also seeped into areas of the paint and I have been unable to rub it out like I have seen on a number of videos online.

Now its clearly and issue with my clear coating however I have covered both models with 4 or so coats of Alclad clear. Any tips to avoiding this keeping in mind I also dont want to layer on clear coat and start filling in panel lines.

Could it be the drying time of the klear which I leave for about 24 hours.
