Captain Mike

I appreciate the info regarding the tiny decals. I have a simple question...some of the F14 fighter plane decals are super tiny (star on the wings etc.) Do you cut out each decal? and what tools have proved to work best to transfer to the wingsfrom the decal paper?

Thanks much

This can be a real pain, depending on how closely the decals are printed on the sheet.  But I do cut out each one, lay the decal and paper close to where the decal goes, then slide it from the paper to the model surface.  I use very small tip, sharp tweezers (the Pixnor ones mentioned in the Tools forum about a year ago).

I did some tiny planes w/o glossing and it was terrible. Was my 1st try and I didn’t know any better. Now I know just a little more. I glossed the spots then used micro set and micro sol.  The result was much much better.

Keep on modeling!

All the best,

William

Have you put something to gloss up the area where you are applying the decals.  Making those areas glossy is primarily done to prevent silvering, but it also helps very small decals adhere.  A little bit of decal setting solution also helps.  Do not use solvent during application.  Also, just a slight wetting with the setting solution- too much and it will float the decal away.  For decals on small parts like that, I daub it with cotton swab as soon as it is in the right place.

I'm having a terrible time applying the decals to 1/700 carrier airplanes. Any suggestions on how to get them to stick will be greatly appreciated.
