Hello,
What do you folks do to your armor kits to prepare for appling decals and how do you seal them after they are set? Thanks in advance, George
I apply a gloss coat all over both before and after the decals. As well as providing the gloss surface for the dcals, it gives me the surface i want to oil weathering.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Exactly what Bish says,I will add that you would naturally finish it off with a final dull coat
What do you use for your gloss coats, testors, tamiya, future, etc
Alclad Aqua gloss. Though i do also paint with Xtracoour enamels, as these are gloss i don't need to gloss coat before decals, but i do after to protect the paint and decals during weathering.

It doesn't matter which one you use. You're going to get a lot of different opinions. Use what you have on hand.
I'm using Alclad Aqua Gloss,I have also used Testors Lacquer Gloss, and Vallejo,as was mentioned, there are many different options, after using you will find one that works for you.
I use Testors Gloss Coat lacquer. It drys fast and is available at most craft stores so I don't need to take the long trip to the hobby shop. I also do the whole thing afterwards with Testors Dullcoat, for same reasons.

I use Rustoleun clearcoat in rattle can. Lasts a long time and easily replenished going to Walmart should I run out.

Hey Don,I use Testors lacquer gloss also,I liked it for ease of use,but it didnt hold up to enamel washes, ruined some paint jobs.

I've noticed the same thing with Testors lacquer gloss. I had some left over automotive gloss paint (I do not remember the name off the top of my head) and have been using it very successfully for protective layering.

I use Future and it holds up well.

I had one can of the supposedly lacquer that was bad. I wonder if they had a whole batch that was really their enamel clearcoat that they stuck the wrong label on. Never had a bad experience since.

Nah,I'm talking about the stuff in the jar, airbrushing it on.

I have never tried the glosscoat in a bottle in my airbrush, just use it for brushing small areas. Never had a problem with it afterwards. I have airbrushed the bottled dullcoat but again never had a problem.
Incidently, I like the bottled lacquer glosscoat for instrument panel glass glossing. I find it easier to just dip a small brush into the bottle than to pour future into something to brush. Dries super shiney. I use a toothpick to drop a drop on 1:72 panel decals to make them look shinier than rest of panel.
