I am building the Finito Benito B-25. Can I put the large decal over Alclad Aluminium, or will the carrier film interfere with the finish as it will not be top-coated?
Hello!
While I don't have too much experience with BMF, I once managed to crank out this baby:
The metallic finish is Gunze super metalizer with panels picked out with Alclad chrome. I just have put decals on top of that and I have overcoated the model, although I don't remember exactly if I used Alclad clear or just future. The decals were treated with decal solvent, although they didn't response to it (Solvaset) to eagerly. Anyhow, as you see the carrier film doesn't show.
Of course it might be different with your paints, decals and solvents, so I'd say just make an experiment - paint a piece of plastic BMF like it will be on the model, and then put an unused decal on it and see for yourself - that would give you the best knowledge.
Hope it helps, have a nice day

Putting decals over Alclad is great! As long as you have a good basecoat under the Alclad, you don't need to do any preparation. Decals go over Alclad very easily.

Use “Gauzy Shine Enchancer”for your gloss coat.It will not change the Alclad shine.Decals go over w/ no problem.Use airbrush’s or hand brush to apply.
As Don said, decals go on very well on Alclad but the carrier film is another matter and depends on the decal itself. Some go on invisible but others do not. I trim off as much carrier film as I can.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!

Thank you everybody for the replies.

Nice work on that bird!

I will have to check that out. Do you know who makes it?
Don:
Do you trim the film before or after you apply the decal?
