Decal residue removal
Posted by toratom on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 12:37 PM

White, chalky decal solvent/glue residue on my Tamiya 1/48 JS-2...... Used Pollyscale clear gloss as a prep, then applied kit decals with Mr. Setter and Mr. Solvent. Also used Tamiya Mark Fit for a couple stubborn markings. Let everything dry overnight. After washing the model with water and a little detergent and not removing the decal residue at all...

Tried something different in order to remove the chalky white stuff. I applied Dawn liquid detergent, loading it up on a soft brush, then swishing  and gently scrubbing the entire affected surface without water. After a minute or two, I rinsed the model with warm water, used the airbrush to blow air onto the model surfaces in order to dry and minimize water spots. The result? All of the residue and water spots were gone! Have not used this technique on surfaces prepped with Future but I will experiment. Hope this is useful.

Cheers

Thanks for your tip, toratom. I will try that technique. I'm trying this to eliminate spotting on Tamiya decals: Rub the effected spots with a Q-Tip wetted with rubbing alcohol. After that dries, spray a little aresol furniture polish into a cap, wet a Q-Tip with it, and then gently apply over the decal. I let that dry for a few minutes, then took a clean Q-Tip and "polished" the area lightly. I'm trying this on a test area--will let you know how it turns out. Thanks again!
