Sold out decals
Posted by MJY65 on Sunday, April 11, 2021 11:32 AM

Is there a company out there that makes one-off runs of decal sets?  There are some sets that have been produced in the past, but are no longer available.  Specifically, I'm looking for a current set of markings for the 148th FW from Duluth, MN.  There are 1:72 available from Caracal and they also produced 1:48 in the past.  Speed hunter had them in 1:32, but not anymore.

I've contacted Reid Publications (SH) and they can only get runs of 500.  No luck on eBay, either.  I don't think I can get away with home printing on 1:32.  It's going to look pretty bad that large.

Any secret sources for unicorns?

Thanks

There are outfits that will print a decal sheet as long as you create the artwork first in vector file format.  They won't touch an already designed sheet as that would be copyright infringement.

Any particular one you'd recommend for quality work?  I've contacted the 148th to see if they can supply the graphics files for their current markings.

Greg at DrawDecals is the best one I've dealt with located in the States:

Another was Josh Muma [Bedlam Creations]

... but  found quality was not good in terms of matching some colours - can see a dot pattern.  They would be fine for black, white, and any standard colours.

There was a few in Europe, but one seems to have gone off the grid after a family member passed, and the other the quality was meh.

Jack

It depends on the resolution of your prinrt- most inkjet printers are pretty high res these days.  A bigger problem is the res of your source graphics.  When I do a google image search these days graphics I set the size as "large" so I dont waste time with lo res results.
