Need assistance with 'peeling' decals...
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, May 3, 2004 1:52 AM
Hi everyone! First off, I'd like to say that this is a pretty informative site! Next, I hope I'm not in the wrong forum for this, but here goes anyway...

The decals that are peeling off in my case are for a couple of my diecast cars...not resin or plastic, but those from Minichamps diecast 1/43 scale. I have Micro Set and Micro Sol when I used to built 1/24 Tamiya Auto plastic models, but am not sure how they would work with diecast. I would appreciate it if anyone could share some knowledge on how to return the decals on my diecast models back to their original state. Thanks!

First of all, welcome to the forum Sign - Welcome [#welcome]Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

The decals that are peeling, did you put them on or were they there when you bought the carsQuestion [?] and, are they decals or transfersBlindfold [X-)] Soometimes they use stick on transfers instead of using slide decals. That would make a difference on what you might use to repair themCool [8D] I don't want to recommend something that would end up making things worse. If they are decals a setting solution might work and if they are transfers a glue would probably have to be usedConfused [%-)]Sigh [sigh]

Either way, good luckMy 2 cents [2c]Big Smile [:D]

First, welcome to the ForumSign - Welcome [#welcome]. I have the same Questions & Concerns expressed by Richard. If they are commercial built models, I would guess they are adhesive based transfers as decals normally wouldn't peel intact but would more likely crack or flake off if a problem had occured. If they are adhesive based, MicrSol/Set wouldn't help and might make things worse.

Hi guys/gals! Thanks for the welcome wagon, and for the replies!

Come to think of it, both of you are right...I'm not even sure if they are decals or transfers!

I thought "peeling" had the same effect as "flaking"...or is there a great distinction between them? I'm thinking I probably have to resort to some sort of glue to restore them instead of using a decal setting solution as mentioned...thanks once again!
