Applying Future?

I usually just brush future on the area where the decals are going to go. And yes, it does appear darker at first. After the decal has been applied and the model has been shot with dullcote, you can still see the area where the future was applied. But after weathering, I've found it to be indistinguishable from the rest.

Just wondering though ... If you spray just the areas for the decals then those areas are going to darken. If you then apply the decals and finally spray the entire model, would the darkening effect even out and not be noticeable? I usually just spray the whole thing, but I wonder what would happen ...

If you're doing an aircraft, I would spray the entire model with Future. The Future tends to very slightly darken the shade of the flat paint which could be noticeable if only applied in the areas where decals will be placed.

I cover the entire model with two fine coats, then apply the decals. However, on armor models, some have painted on the Future where the decals go, applied them, then flat coated the whole model.

If you have a very large model, it might be easier to spot-paint the Future, then apply the decals and clearcoat the whole model afterwards.
