Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, April 12, 2003 10:04 PM
Hi everyone!

Im trying to restore an older model for a friend( 1\16 dodge charger street machine) model.

So my question is what is a good way to remove the old water slide on type
decals that have been on this car body for years?
I dont want to scratch they off, I need A safe great way to do it.

Any help would be great thanks!

Are you going to remove the paint too? If you are the paint remover will take the decals off no problem.
If you're not removing the paint you might try burnishing some tape down over them and then pulling it up and see if the decal comes with it. That's my only suggestion right now.

If there's no paint on the body I would try soaking it in paint remover anyway. Any of the common paint removers should work and it probably wouldn't have to sit very long either. I think the only other way to do it would be to try and sand them off, which you said you didn't really want to do.
Are you going to paint it when you restore it? Maybe you could just prime and paint over them.

Hy.
If it is painted with enamels, you can remove the decals with 90° alcolhol or with mineral solvant like "White Spirit". But be carefull, it can attack the paint a little.
With accrylics, I can't answer but NO alcolhol at all.
