B-36 Decal sets
Posted by flyinyourShorts on Saturday, October 9, 2004 8:38 AM
Hello all,
After a VERY long time away from building model airplanes, I am finally getting back into the hobby.

The ones I am really anxious to build are the ones I was so amazed with as a teenager. Finding an old Monogram B-36 really got me back into the hobby, and i'm dying to get started on this airplane.

What I am looking for is any of these decal sheets

Superscale 72-271/272
Scalemaster SM-28/SM-31

I have looked all over the net, on ebay, and elsewhere. I figure somebody in here would be able to help me out in finding these decal sheets.

Thanks in advance if anybody knows where I can find any or all of these!

Welcome to the forums!Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

I believe those decals are long out of production (OOP), which you probably realized after your fruitless search.

Another option is some of the modeling websites. If you haven't done so already, post your request on Plane Trading at hyperscale.com.

Good luck with your search. It seems those decals are hard to come by nowadays, with people hoarding what few are left. With the reissue of the B-36, I really don't understand why more aftermarket decals haven't come out.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] I know how difficult it is to get AM stuff for the B-36 (turrets would be nice). I just built the one released from Revell Germany (most likely a Monogram re-release), and it had to be strictly out of box. If you can't find anything along the lines of manufactured decals, there is always the possibility of printing your own. I don't know how to do that, though, but I'm sure there's plenty of people here that do!

I tell ya what, that B-36 is a nice bird. Just make sure you have a HUGE area cleaned off on the shelves. Tongue [:P]

Another possible resorce is EBay. There are literally hundreds of sheets up for auction at any given time. Just keep an eye open and you may run accross one!

A few years back I built this kit with after-market details and modified into the FICON version. In fact, I ended up with two of the 1/72 kits. Anyway, I have the decal sheet from the second (unbuilt) kit and the unused decals from the ones I bought for the FICON conversion. Sorry to be vague about the ones I have. I will dig out my extra kit and my book of decals in a few days and let you know the numbers of the decal sheets that I have. If you want any, no charge. I always enjoy helping out a fellow modeller. Here are the part numbers for the AM decals for the B-36. I am sure they are OOP, but the numbers may help your search.
Scalemaster: SM-28, SM-31
SuperScale (now Microscale): 72-271, 72-272
This was taken from In Detail and Scale #47 that was published in 1995. Which may mean that there is a possibility of finding these decals.Big Smile [:D]
