Decal Help
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, February 23, 2005 7:28 AM
Next model to be done is the Revell B24D Liberator. If possible I would like to convert it from "Flak Alley" to "Envy of Em All" but that is going to require custom decals. Is there a company that will make custom or am I going to have to figure out how to do it on my ink jet? I have the picture of the nose art that I would like to make a decal but dont know what to do. Thank you in advance.

Testors makes a nice Decal making kit. You can get it at Walmart,(surprise surprise) for somewhere around $15-20

The neigbor to the North is correct. The Testor kit is pretty good for what you can use it for. The only problem I had was in trying to make my own decals in the Testors program, said I needed to send 'em $10 US to make the custum decal program to work. I suspect I might have gotten an old version though. I did have luck with using a combination of my scanner, and my hp photosmart 245 print that prints 4x6 photographs from my digital camera. Make sure no mattter what printer you use that under the 'prefrences' tab you use the best quality you can. You tend to use more ink, but it's really worth it. After I scanned the images into the 'paint' program, I tweaked them there and then sent them over to 'photoshop' to get them just right. The only other suggestion I might have would be to pick up some Micromark white decal paper seeings how printers won't print white.

Thanks for the help. I did go out and purchase the testors program but unfortunately it is the base one and it doesnt allow you to do customs. Guess I'm gonna have to send the 10 in aslo.

You don't really need their software, any software that lets you play around with a picture will printout on decal paper. I've used photoshop and other free software on the web for this. In pinch, you can even use a word processor like microsoft word if all you want to do is scan or copy in a picture, resize it, and print.

My father flew on the original crew of the B-24D "Flak Alley" (and to Ploesti) I am looking ofr a color picture of the nose art. If you do not plan to use the decal is there any chance that you could have it copied, scanned in, or photographed and e-mailed to me?

I am trying to build a larger, authentic model of "Flak Alley" and can not find a color picture of the nose art.

Most appreciated.
