Making your own decals??

I've got that kit at home, but haven't used it. I think Testors puts it out, I'll look when I get home. Basically you just set up the decals in whatever graphics software you want to use, and print them on special "Paper". Once printed, spray them with some sealer to seal them in.

Thin decals are the best. They don't show a "Hump" where the edge of the decal is. They do take some care in handling though. I usually get a good bit of water underneath so they tend to float into position, and then roll (not push, but roll) a Q-Tip over them to get the water out from underneath.

Like music city says, you don't need a specific decal printing program like the Testors one mentioned. I've done it in MSWord, MSVisio, and photoshop.

I have the testors kit and Coral Draw Suite.
I use both.
I do the detail work in Coral, but testors allows me to pull any previous work in and scale it to a different size with a single click/drag of the mouse.
That makes it easy to take a 1/48 scale decal and use it on any kit by just scaling it up or down.
Testors is a great product if you dont have a good graphics program, which can be pricey $400.00 for Coral Suite for example.

Just be aware that the version sold in stores is the trial version and doesn't have all the features available.
Order the full version direct, or buy the store version and register it.

I use both the Testors Decal Maker program and Paint Shop Pro 9 which is now owned by Corel but a lot cheaper then the suite.

Paint Shop Pro 9 can be downloaded at www.corel.com . The cost to own is $119.00 to download but you can do a try before you buy.

but yea, thats where to get it.
I like the Coral suite, I'd never had paid the $400.00 for it tho.
Thats just too pricy when all I use it for is decals, IL2 Sturmkov skins and a few photos.

I inherited it as a hand-me-down from a relative who's company buys him his software.

After looking over that add a little closer,
Thats just the standard version, you need to pay another $10.00 and they send you the CD for the full version.
Its all explained in the package.
Just grab it at Wal-Mart its the same price and you have it in hand to look at right away, and if you don't like it you can return it the same day.
its worth $20.00 for the full version tho IMHO, especially if your computer clumsy, like me :)

A non-expiring demo version of Paint Shop Pro 4 can be downloaded from JASC for free. I have had it for over two years with no problems. I use it for making textures for Monster Truck Madness 2 and other graphical needs. It supports most file types and has a few added filters for special effects. I used it to paint all of these trucks, these textures are in 256 colors. and speaking on IL-2, I think I'll go shoot somebody down right now.
