Decal Removal

Well, it worked. I put micro sol on the decals and let it soften them up for about 15 minutes, keeping them wet. Then I dried them off and used Tamiya masking tape to rip them off.

I had to use a toothpick with the end shaved to clean some bits out of the panel lines, but at least it is all gone.

What a relief! Now all I have to do is order another sheet from Eagle Editions.....

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that tonight - it's so frustrating to have the model coming out so well, only to make stupid mistakes with basic construction techniques.

MicroSet will easily remove decals, if there isn't a clear coat over them.

I am in the process of putting the decals on my P47, and on the fuselage star and bar, I smudged the color (from messing with it while there was micro sol on it - dumb I know!) and now the only way of fixing it I see it taking it off.

Anyone have an experience like this? Any recommendations? I'll try the tape. It's just that I am really paranoid about the surface below. The clear is Future, so I don't want to hurt it either.

It depends on wheterr or not it was clear coated. Denatrued alchohol is how I removed old flat and gloss coat while removing the decal at same time. You have to be careful if you use this method. Good ventilation and no sparks any where near you, Denatured alchohol is highly flammable. You probably know that by now, but it never hurts to remind someone so they do'nt get fried in the process.

is it sealed with clear paint?
if not, try really strong tape for clean removal.
