What went wrong?

Today I began applying the decals to my F4U-1A. I had the MicroSet out and open, had a bowl of water to wet them in, even had the MicroSol for the bigger ones.Smile [:)] A lot of them, especially the smaller ones, like No Step, No Hand Hold, etc. are silvered!Angry [:(!] I thought setting solutions were supposed to help eliminate this problem.Banged Head [banghead] What gives?

TJ-did you put the decals on flat (matte) paint? If so, that's what causes silvering-because flat paint is rough and trapped air under the decals causes the afore-mentioned effect. Be sure to use gloss coat or furture before applying decals (also cut off as much of the clear part of the decal as you can). Setting solutions only help to conform decals to irregular surfaces like rivets. When all is done you can use dull coat for a flat finish. Don't despair-aftermarket decals are available and inexpensive.

I did use a coat of Future sprayed on a week ago! Oh well, this is my first kit in 17 years, I was expecting some problems. This website has been a great tutorial. Although this model isn't museum quality, it is the best I've ever done, and each succesive model will be that much better, right? This one has had a lot of first's: First time using an AB; First time using PE; first time using AM Decals.Propeller [8-] I can hardly wait to start my P-38!Party [party]

TJ-make sure you use enough future to get a very glossy, smooth surface, I use gloss coat. But peel the decals and replace them-don't give up on your hard work.

I'm not giving up on 'er. She's too beautiful to just kick to the curb. BTW where is Clevesburg? I grew up in Ft. Wayne, IN.

TJ-It's Cleveland -actually Rocky River. I spent 3 years of my youth in Biloxi-while my Dad was stationed at Keesler AFB.
