Decal Problem, no such markings exist
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, August 11, 2005 4:41 PM
Hi. This is my first post, and I am suffering from a common problem among the modeling community. I want to apply these custom decals to this Pre-built F-14 Tomcat that I own in a 1/72 scale. The Decals should represent the low-viz decorations of the VF-41 "Black Aces" full card design. However, I've hit a snag. No such prints exist. At least, not in the 1/72 scale. Since this is my first post and all, I'm not really familiar with how skilled you modellers here are. But if it's possible, I would greatly appreciate it if someone could make the decals for me. I've tried asking people like dealers, and manufacturers, but most of them never return my emails , and those that do ask for a pretty hefty fee because they sell in limits of 2000 units per customer!. So if someone here could make a single sheet of custom decals for me, It would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

There used to be a guy who made custom decals but he stopped since demand was too high, but if you get a copy of the 1/48 scale decals or whatever size you said they had. And shrink them down using a photoshop or something like that. Get one of those make your own decals kits testors makes and print em on that. The only problem I can think of is if the decals have the blue backing it would show up blue when you printed it. After it prints apply two thin layers of the spray can the testors kit comes with.

Hope this helps. And Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

The only help I can offer is to try this guy jbot.ca He does computer generated decals and will do custom work as long as you have the cash.

I'll give that a shot. Thanks Any idea where I can find these "make your own decal sheets" online?

I'll check. I think it might be alright if you want to copy things that don't have spaces in the middle.

not too expensive.

I'm not sure when the date was, but you might check the index of articles in FSM (a couple of years back I believe) for an article that Paul Boyer did on making your own decals using your computor and printer.

Looking in the index on this site, it looks like there was something on the subject in Dec. 2003.

EDIT: I take that back; the article by Boyer was in Nov. 2001; the Dec. '03 issue had an item in the Q&A section.

If you could post a picture of what you need I will see if it is something I can do for you. Actually, I can do it, it is just a matter of how dificult the artwork is that will determine the price. I do all of my artwork in vectors not raster images so I get much crisper lines and resolution.
