two questions
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, November 24, 2005 10:28 AM

Do modellers ever paint instead of decalling? I wouldn't think of trying to paint small fiddley bits, but I mean things like targets that cover a lot of plastic, go over bumps, and don't bed down (aaaargh!!) I was thinking about maybe using a template printed out from the original decal or something, and using it as a stencil.

Also, what can you do with silvered and cracked decals? Are they beyond repair? I used microsol and they're beyond that now. I mean after the fact, rather than the prevention of silvering.

thanks

Did you try a coat or two of Future? If they are severely cracked, you might be out of luck.

There are people who do paint national markings, numbers etc.  I had a friend a few years ago that made his own stencils using Frisket and then painting those items, especialy in the larger scales (1/32, 1/2 etc).  There is at least one company out there (I can't remember which one) that produces masks or stencils for the same items in for 1/72 and 1/48 aircraft.

I put a coat of Future, or Klear as it's known here, on before applying the decal. I didn't realise it would have any effect afterwards. I could try it.

I'm interested in the company who produce masks for markings, qmiester. I'll look into it.

thanks
