Micro Sol application

If you can read the instructions on the bottle you've either found a bigger bottle or have younger eyes than me!

Micro SET you use like the Testors, soak, dab, apply MicroSet and apply decal.

I find the SET is too agressive, so I don't use it anymore as I have a hard time sliding the decal into the correct position. I use it only for moving decals that have already set and dried. With varying success rate. Sigh!

Micro SOL is used to snug decals over uneven areas. You paint the SOL on top of the decal once it's positioned and dried into place. Beware it wrinkles up like a prune, but believe it or not it will dry flat again.DO NOT TOUCH THE DECAL once it's applied. It will shift, fold, tear, wrinkle and fall off!

I find that if you're heavy handed with the fluid it can cause a Future gloss coat to fog up, which may or may not go away depending on how much fluid and how long you've left the fluid on.

Thanks for the heads ups.  I read somewhere before that it would wrinkle the decal and I thought "wonderful, I get to screw with the decal even more.".  Thakfully I posted this, ortherwise I would be screwing up decals left and right.

I'm hoping to be apply the future tommorow (this will be my first time, yes I am a future virgin), and hopefully it will be cured by the time the micro sol/set arrives so I can give it a try.

Great write up and thread.  Thanks for the link, it helped out more than you can imagine.

I use the microsol only when the microset won't snug it down tight or there is a lot of detail under the decal.  After putting the decal on and using the microset, after it has had a chance to dry a bit (I usually give it 30min to an hour) I apply the microsol, I keep doing this until it is tight against the plastic.  If you use the microsol like this, don't touch the decal with ANYTHING!!!  It will immediately do one of two things, disentegrate or turn into a glob of goo if ya do...   (that comes from the mouth of experience on that one!!! )

Usually aftermarket decals work well with just the microset, but with decals like Tamiya and academy make I almost always have to Microsol it...

If I wanted to re-do the decals on my Tamiya M1, I could use the micro set to remove them (I have a spare decal set), clean the part, apply future, then  re-apply them using the prescribed method?  Would the micro set cause any damage to the existing paint job?

I know you guys said it was okay to ask questions (this forum is like a kid at Christmas for me, trial and error for a frustrating year of building models does that to me), so I hope I'm not going over board.  If I do get to that annoying Steve Erkel stage please let me know.  :)

Well Steve,   hahah kidding...

Micro SOL should get the decals up and shouldn't ruin the paint underneath... the microset is the weaker of the two... just keep applying it until you are able to lift the edge then gently work it off...
