File type for decal scans

Hi,

What file type is the best for printing decal sheets from scans?

If you have the ability, hi-res TIFFs are probably your best bet, since you can adjust the color data without much degradation.

JPGs tend to deteriorate with multiple cuts, pastes, and copies, but for decal printing, a hi-res JPG will probably suit your needs just fine.

Not to mention oddball compression artifacts that show up for no apparent reason!

JPG = Just a Piece of Garbage!

So long folks!

Dear Sir,

I don't use raster based formats for printing decals at all, Get yourself a good drawing program and scan to one layer and do your trace drawing on another layer, after you are done, just delete the scan layer, this way if you have to resize, the graphics are in vector format with no loss or clean up of the edges to do. Stenciling and any text you can change to path object and resize to the smallest of size, I have text for 1/350th scale aircraft that I have done in this fashion.

I too, have used Illustrator eps files for making decals (unit numbers and insignia) for my Canadian HO scale (1/87) modern military vehicles. The resizing is what I wanted. Just like Barney said...no loss or cleaning up needed.
