making woodgrain decals
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, April 8, 2006 2:08 PM
i just bought an Academy 1/32 sopwith camel and the front of it is to be woodgrained, the box photos show the same, but they don't include a decal for that,i was wondering if i can use a woodgrain template that i have in Paintshop Pro and scan it onto CLEAR decal film, maybe with a white undercoat,i don't have any white decal paper right now and the closest HS is about 75 miles away

Yes you can scan and print, here is a link to get decal paper clear and white:

Their paper is very good and probably the cheapest on the web.

i seached on the FSM data base for sopwith camel and somewhere in there several people have had the same problem, but there was a post on how to paint plastic to make it look like wood...

after i tried it on a scrap piece ,i won't be needing the decals,it was simply amazing and super easy at the same time

paint the piece a sandy brown color, and then cover it with future.take a tube of burnt umber (oil) and brush it across(almost like a dry brushing) it won't go on smooth and leaves a great effect,i've only tried it on one small piece of scrap and got a good result,so i'm sure with a little practice i'll master a new found technique
