Problem with Future over decals
Posted by TB6088 on Friday, April 21, 2006 12:18 AM

I used Future for the first time a while back to undercoat my model before decaling, and I was really pleased when the decals laid down perfectly.  It worked so well that I decided to use it as an overcoat and that turned out to be a big mistake--- it yellowed all the decal film!  Any idea of what I did wrong?

I never use Future over my decals, (I hate mixing stuff) but it sounds like either you may have gotten an old batch that has yellowed, or used it in too great of a strength of concentration, or there was something about the specific decal manufacturer's product that was sensative to the chemistry of the Future product, and you got an adverse reaction.

That's why I stick to clear acrylics for decal overcoating.

T6 - wierd!  I use Future all the time to overcoat both the weathering AND the decals right before a dull coat.. who made the decals?  were they OOB?  do you thin your Future with anything?  (although that shouldn't have anything to do with it)  A very curious problem there!

sidewinder,Musta pre? just use Tamiya Acrylic thinner. 4 parts future to 1 parts tamiya thinner works for me. actually future can be sprayed on or brushed on directly. the thinner just helps it level out better. plus you can avoid "orange peel" on your future coat. just feel free to ask me questions bro, suportahan taka!
