If you are in trouble with Winzip ( it's not so uncommon ) try downloading Winace. It's a
very easy
compressor/decompressor and it reads a lot of formats. Once it is
installed, all you have to do is double-click on the file (zip or a lot
more choices) and the Winace proposes to extract the file; you have the
choice of destination and a lot more. I don't use any other
decompressor anymore since I found this one. Moreover, in my humble
opinion, PDF is only practical to read and transmit/download/upload,
but it is not the best choice as far as image quality is involved.
