Using Future to set decals?
Posted by Dave23 on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 2:29 PM

I read somewhere the other day that dipping decals into Future instead of water not only works, but eliminates the need for spraying a gloss coat prior to decaling. Anyone ever hear of this, or tried it?

I did that on my FW190A8 with the decals on landing gear covers that I forgot to spray with future when I did the rest of the plane.  Basically I dipped the decal in water like normal, but for the few seconds it was in the water I dipped a brush into the future and covered the area where the decal was to go.  Then I just put the decal on and voila.  Seemed to work just fine.

If I remember correctly, there was a tip regarding that on Swanny's website in the section about Future.

I've done it as well, mainly for IP decals.  It works pretty good.  I'm not sure I would try this on a fuselage or body decal as the gloss around the decal would make the final dull coat or other coat appear different in the area of the decal.  (unless you futured the body after the decal set up, which would seal the decal and provide a uniform surface for the dull coat at the same time)

i usually shoot a coat of Future on and then as i decal i hit the spot with a brush of Future right before i apply each decal,,later after they have all dried good(24 hrs) i shoot another coat of Future, this i have found leaves NO CHANCE for silvering to occur because the decals are sealed inside of the future on both sides while wet
